In parallel with the research project, aimed at developing new knowledge and methods that will allow extensions and improvements of the European and Slovenian for design of earthquake resistant structures Eurocode 8, a campaign is ongoing to implement the existing version of the standard in practice. One of the actions was the preparation of the monograph entitled "Eurocode 8: Seismic Design of Buildings", which contains a description of the theoretical basis of individual parts of the standard and shows examples of the application of the standard. The monograph was published as a JRC (Joint Research Centre) Ispra report and is available at http://eurocodes.jrc.ec.europa.eu/doc/WS_335/report/EC8_Seismic_Design_of_Buildings-Worked_examples.pdf. A.Kreslin and P.Fajfar contributed a chapter on the analysis of building structures. The monograph will facilitate to the designers the understanding of the standard, which is quite demanding, and allow its proper application, which will ultimately contribute to greater seismic resistance of buildings.
F.04 Increase of the technological level
COBISS.SI-ID: 5859681In the study seismic design parameters for design of buildings at the PPE-TOL site were determined. Since the structures are defined as “important”, a direct use of standard Eurocode 8 is not possible. A special study is required for the determination of seismic input. For this purpose it was necessary to perform an analysis of the influence of the local soil at the site. Based on the results of the analyses, the design ground acceleration and the elastic acceleration spectrum for the horizontal direction was proposed. Guidelines to designers for use of this spectrum were provided. The study is an example of the use of knowledge gained from research in the field of earthquake engineering to solve complex non-standard problems in practice.
F.17 Transfer of existing technologies, know-how, methods and procedures into practice
COBISS.SI-ID: 5859169The research team at FGG, involved in earthquake engineering, has for many years successfully collaborated with the NPP Krško, especially in reviewing and assessing projects that are related to the seismic safety of NPP facilities and their equipment. The report contains the results of an independent evaluation of projects related to the replacement of the reactor head, which were made in the USA. FGG has contributed the evaluation of seven documents related to input data for seismic analysis of the reactor vessel closure head and associated equipment.
