The role of β-1,3-glucanase class III (Glu-III) gene was evaluated in the interaction between potato and potato virus YNTN using the functional genomics approach. We prepared transgenic potatoes overexpressing Glu-III. After PVYNTN inoculation differences in viral spread were observed between transgenic lines over-expressing Glu-III and non-transgenic lines. Differences in the speed of viral spread were correlating with differences observed in the expression of selected marker genes. We also developed a new method ) for detection of genetically modified organisms (GMO), named NAIMA (NASBA Implemented Microarray Analysis.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1857359The National Institute of Biology, Department of Biotechnology and Systems Biology is nominated as the national reference laboratory for GM detection from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environement. Laboratory is providing scientific and technical support to ministries and their inspection services and is cooperating with European Union Reference laboratory JRC and with The institute for reference materials and methods (IRMM). It is also the member of the European network of GMO laboratories (ENGL) and regularly informs general public on GMOs, what can be seen from different presentations, contributions for media and general publications. IN 2012 the laboratory introduced six accredited methods.
