The main goal of our study was to investigate the most common health problems of Slovenian physical education teachers and their relation to gender and age.The study included 468 physical education teachers (282 or 60.3% males and 184 or 39.7% females) that volunteered to anonymously participate in the study. The average age was 43.4 10 and 41.5 8 years for males and females, respectively. The most frequent health problems reported were low back pain, dysphonia and auditory problems, followed by common cold and osteoarthrosis with the exception of the hip and elbow. There were no gender related differences in the prevalence of low back pain, but females were more commonly affected with dysphonia, headaches and urinary inflammation. There was a higher frequency of hearing problems and locomotion problems with the increasing age of the teachers. The results of our study are highlighting the need for better health care of physical education teachers in the sense of better work conditions, appropriate class organiyation, more frequent health examinations and better physical readiness of the teachers for the given work conditions.
