Contemporary Slovene rural areas as multifunctional localities with heterogeneous and mosaic structure are exposed to enormous restructuring whereas being trapped between the traditional processes and structures on one and modern development processes on the other side. Goriška (predominately rural), being part of strongly integrated cross-border region, is very diverse in geographical structure, comprising huge historical, cultural and natural heritage, with relevant share of LFA and specific land cultivation, and increasing inter-regional disparities. The paper focuses on networking of SMEs in rural areas. The results confirm the complex nature of relationships between favourable business environment (built-up and supportive business milieu) and processes of embeddedness and international integration.

The paper is presenting the assessment of organic production potentials for sustainable local food supply. Using the results of extensive field research among organic farmers, analysis of existing organic production for the market by the type of products and marketing channels was undertaken. The authors estimate that, especially in the organic production, there is a large untapped potential for sustainable local food supply in Slovenia. Our project also )via interviews) included organic farms with registered supplementary activity on the farm (predominately agritourism and traditional knowledge transfer), therefore is the mentioned database relevant for our final project stage, i.e. recommendations.
