The effect of broadcast fertilization vs. fertigation and irrigation practices (sprinkler and drip irrigation) on yield, nitrate content and the uptake in white cabbage was analysed. The highest yield and nitrate was found using broadcast fertilisation and sprinkler irrigation. Here the negative N balance was recorded, deriving from the highest crop N uptake. In terms of yield quality and the potential risk for N losses, broadcast fertilisation combined with sprinkler irrigation proved to be the most effective combination among the tested practices under the given experimental conditions.
