An analysis of the conditions for the emergence of an autonomous youth culture, which also includes festivals, in the town of Tolmin (Slovenia). For youths’ local identification (production of locality) their autonomy within the local context is crucial. This autonomy is related to local places, within which youth practices can take place, as well as to the use of local community symbols. Production of locality is successful when the young can model the symbolic construction of their local community relatively independently.
