In collaboration with researchers from University Castilla-La Mancha in Spain, laboratory flux measurement system and dispersion models were used to investigate the kinetics of mercury emission flux (MEF) from contaminated soils. For scaling-up and modelling of mercury evaporation from soils a comprehensive assessment of the processes controlling the evaporation of mercury from soils is imperative. Knowledge about parameters controlling Hg emission from contaminated surfaces enabled development of the Hg emission model with the support of geographical information system (GIS).
