COBISS.SI-ID: 30289369The individual` identity and their place in society are based upon the body and health. Health has become a concept of general consumption, which demands immediate fulfilment for as low costs as possible. Consumerism, in particular faith in the efficiency of pharmaceutical substances, provides an illusion that the latter is only effective measure. On the other hand, alongside with consumerism, the access to knowledge and awareness of the importance of prevention and thus a healthy lifestyle, which an individual may carry out by himself, expanded. Smoking cessation, healthy diets, alcohol consumption limitations and the importance of physical activity, have been presented as important aspects of individual health care, but on the other hand also mean mediatisation of the society. In a way, the society keeps order with disciplining of the body. The disease is not accepted as a random natural phenomenon, but as a result of certain (personal) weaknesses. This is reflected in the concept that health is not just absence of disease, but also requires a well-being on physical, mental and social field. Internet based health-related information often fail to show a patient (real) picture of the disease and health. On the other hand, online forums in which participating physicians provide valid information, allow the patients to get proper feedback in virtual space. In such an environment, a bio psychosocial model of treatment can function better, since a reciprocal relationship between doctors and patients is not a deviation from expectations, but a step toward a better outcome. Shared responsibility may bring more satisfaction, better coping with the disease and more preventive action, which in turn can lead to higher quality of life. The aging of the population imposes liability for individuals and society and also increasing expenditure on health care.
