The leading ideas are the society and the university which both change. New situation in the society radically interfere with the fortress of knowledge. Does the university resign with it to its fundamental mission which is represented in its autonomy, the academic freedom and some other aspects? The discussion on the sustainability at the university thematises numerous aspects of that dilemma. The society can not afford the subsistence of the university because of some external influences. The university is an important link of identity of the society as well as of the students, but it urgently needs a change. The so called knowledge society is not a unique goal; the university has, besides the education, to shape the dialogical space, equality between sexes, social justice, ecological integrity and welfare of all living systems on the planet.
