Aluminophosphate APO-tric is a novel adsorption material for thermal energy storage. APO-tric is a microporous triclinic chabazite material with ordered microporous 3-dimensional channel structure. The framework of APO-tric is very flexible. Flexibility of the aluminophosphate framework increases the possibility of water adsorption into the structure. The water adsorption distorts chabazite structure. The derformation is completely reversible and can be removed by dehydration at 120 oC. The material shows a very good thermal stability up to 900 oC and a water uptake up to 0.32 g/g.

The storage of solar heat and hydrogen is still a technological challenge that hinders their large-scale utilization. Microporous adsorbents are currently the most promising candidates for storage applications, mainly because of the possibility for a precise tuning of their atomic structure. This paper focuses on the latest approaches in synthesis and structure characterization of microporous aluminophosphates and metal-organic framework structures for sorption-based storage applications.
