The lecture focuses on the Beltinci folklore festival, where the political and ideological implication of constant border changing resulted with the reshaping and reinterpretation of the meaning of “local,” “ethnic” or “national” musical forms. It aims to show how by representing the “most representative” musical pieces based on the essentialistic canon of “national musical heritage” – such as folklore, actually make their meanings more complex and ambivalent.

COBISS.SI-ID: 31826733The lecture addresses the situation in the sphere of culture in post-socialist societies, which in many aspects challenges the very concept of post-socialism and the 1989/90 as the historical breaking line. On the example of the Beltinci Folklore Festival in Prekmurje and more broadly on the reestablishing the links in post-Yugoslav cultural sphere, lecture demonstrates the important aspects of continuity between socialist and post-socialist culture.
