COBISS.SI-ID: 34616621The presentation discusses a specific social function of Slovenian émigré drama, which is predominantly aimed at strengthening the Slovenian cultural identity and preserving the memory of the old country. The most productive in this field were playwrights from the Slovenian emigrant community in the US before World War Two and from the post-war Slovenian emigrant community in Argentina, whose drama is focused on reviving the memory of their collective trauma. The predominantly "internal" social function of the drama produced within these communities differs essentially from the social function of the plays written by internationally recognized authors. This is reflected in the changing interest of Slovenia proper in emigrant drama as well.
