In this study anaerobic digestion of selected lignocellulosic substrate BSG, inoculed with anaerobically digested sewage sludge, was studied. The experiments were carried out in a semi-continuous stirred bioreactors with the organic loading rates between 2.9 and 3.9kgCOD/m.d and corresponding hydraulic retention times of 33-39 days. A significant inhibition of biogas production occurred, depending on the type of substrate pretreatment. There are indications that p-cresol is responsible for process inhibition when its concentration in the reaction mixture exceeds critical value above 115mg/L.

The project has analysed average values and fluctuations of legally limited parameters in several selected treatment plants in the raw sludge or solid fuel made from it. So far only one plant can convert all the sludge generated to dry material at acceptable quality. Control systems for monitoring fuel quality have been developed, using European technical standards for alternative fuels. A public information system are set up in order to allow transparent and reliable operation (production and use) of the alternative solid fuel, which is successfully used in cement industry.
