The paper deals with virtualization of all tunnel equipment in form of a computer based simulator which is capable of substituting a real tunnel while maintaining possibility to connect to real operator user interfaces. By doing this course of events during emergency events can be determined and analyzed. Assessment of emergency events is crucial in order to optimize operator and rescue service responses. Apart from that it can be used to develop and evaluate new equipment. The paper describes models that have been developed and evaluated during the project and presents a case study of tunnel operator training session on a virtualized tunnel.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2224227The thesis deals with virtualization of road tunnel by using mathematical models of all phenomena that occur in road tunnel and of all the tunnel equipment. Traffic, ventilation and evacuation have been modelled and merged in a single model that also includes models of equipment such as ventilation system, video control and detection system, illumination, accident detection etc ... The merged model is a basis for optimization of road tunnel control during normal and emergency conditions.

COBISS.SI-ID: 262598400The monograph deals with the previous studies on FFFS (fixed fire fighting systems carried) out by PIARC and the recent developments since the release of the PIARC report on this subject in 1999. Lessons drawn from the past fires and holistic approach to fixed fire fighting systems (FFFS) have also been studied. FFFS have been considered in the general framework of tunnel safety and their interaction with ventilation has been assessed. The requirements related to FFFS have been reviewed. *** Complaint regarding incorrect classification has been handed in. It should have been classified as 2.01 - scientific monograph. See attached file "dopis_znanstveni_svet.pdf" ***

COBISS.SI-ID: 1865315The review included verification of methodologies that were used in the study. Apart from methodological review, the results were verified by carrying out additional risk calculations. Simulations of fire scenarios have been carried out using 1D and 3D CFD models.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2201443The study analyses a proposal to upgrade tunnel ventilation system in Karavanke road tunnel in order to comply with the Road Tunnel Directive 2004/54/EC at much lower cost than building of a second tunnel tube would cause. It is possible to upgrade tunnel ventilation system in a much shorter time than it would take for the second tunnel tube to be built. During the study fire simulations of different accident scenarios were carried out. 1D and 3D CFD ventilation models were used during the analysis.
