As an economic measure for the rehabilitation and/or upgrading of existing railway lines, geogrids for reinforcement have successfully been installed. The geogrid reinforcement restrains lateral deformations of the sub-base through shear interaction, which reduces permanent horizontal strains and vertical stresses in the long run. The paper presents results from field measurements of a geogrid reinforced railway embankment on soft soil.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1488231During long term lasting traffic load bellow threshold load, due to densification of underlying soil and unbound layer,s theirs residual strain incrementally increases up to a certain asymptotic value, which presents a stable state. When load is over that threshold value, residual strain continue to increase up to failure. Laboratory testing procedures on cyclic hollow cylinder apparatus and cyclic triaxial aparatus with vertical and lateral cyclic loading, which can model the rotation of principal stresses, are presented in the paper.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1739623Construction industry is an optimal area for use of waste products. There are two main reasons for this: it is possible to consume high volumes of these products; toxic substances can be immobilized, and therefore the production of environmentally acceptable composites is possible. We developed technological procedure for the reuse of steel black slag, where the final product is thermally and environmentally stable. This procedure is already patented. Since, in Slovenia is more than 100.000 tons of steel black slag and it is still permanently produced, it can be expected that environmental and economic results of this technology will be excellent.

Particular attention was paid on bedding error at the top and bottom ends of specimen and on fixing the transducers on membrane to be used under low confining pressure. The effects of large number of preloading cycles and specimen overloading are investigated.
