The aim of this study was to verify the operation of a conceptual design of a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) for upgrading the Domžale-Kamnik WWTP with the third level of treatment. Operation of the SBR was tested with a mathematical model inside of the GPS-X software by using dynamical influent. It was found out that it is not possible to achieve effluent concentrations below the defined limits when the influent flow rate is slightly increased. Therefore, it was proposed that larger volumes of the reaction tanks, from those suggested in the SBR, have to be applied for upgrading the plant.
