Simulation of a throughfeed centreless grinding process in a virtual environment (VE) is presented. The developed simulations are based on an analytical grinding gap model describing the grinding gap macro geometry and workpiece kinematics. The model is embedded in a desktop application (Cegris), which facilitates regulating wheel truing and the determination of set-up variables. The Cegris is ported to a CAVE (CAVE Automatic Virtual Environment) for an interactive visualisation of the process.

In certain domains of production engineering we are faced with a very small batch production as it is the case in the production of heavy hydro energy equipment. In this domain manual welding is one of the most time consuming operations. In this paper a novel concept of data acquisition and wireless information flow between several groups of welding stations – welding clusters and supervisory control and data acquisition environment is presented. Additionally it is reported on the experimental setup for data acquisition during welding which enables development of dedicated monitoring hardware.
