Young researcer Urban Švajger has successfuly defended his PhD thesis under the mentorship of the project leader (M Jeras), which was a result of studies conducted within nationakl projects L1-6295 and L2-2402. He developed different protocols for the preparation of both types of immune cells and presented new mechanisms leading to tolerogenicity of DCs, arising from human monocytes.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2781809Our invention represents a new protocol for preparation of tolerogenic DCs with specific properties, induced only by extremely high concentrations of IFN-γ. These cells represent potential tool for preparing therapeutic cellular drugs (regulatory T lymphocytes) used for treatment of different immunity-conditioned diseases.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2999921The proposed invention represents a new protocol for the assessment of agonism or antagonism of the existing and new synthetic inhibitors of the DC-SIGN lectin receptor expressed on dendritic cells (DCs). The assessment of the intrinsic activity of DC-SIGN inhibitors is based on the determination of cytokine profiles of DCs, being concomitantly exposed or unexposed to TLR agonists.
