COBISS.SI-ID: 34491648 ;Darovec Darko is mentor to a young researcher in historical demography. The young researcher training program includes a systematic and integral research of the period in question (mid-18th century), in conjunction with the demographic situation of the Istrian population during this period. It is the time of economic growth, where the emphasis is put on how this aspect is also reflected the demographic level, and analyses the typologies, rules and patterns associated with the demographic structure of the population of Istria in the 18th century (the natural population growth, migrations, ...). The training of the young researcher is concerning both the northwestern coastal towns of Istria (Koper, Izola, Piran and also Trieste) as well as their rural hinterland. Focusing on such issues is based primarily (but not exclusively) on the serial sources, such as the status animarum, parish registers, first censuses, taking into account the inhomogeneity and incompleteness of the data, and difficulties connected with the fact that these sources originate from the period of pre-modern statistics.

The paper presented on 13th International congress for eighteenth century studies deals with the system of poor relief institutions in European and Slovenian context. Parochial poor institute represents one of the first effective attempts to centralize poor relief institutions. The new poor relief system has been marked by repressive policies toward the beggars and public beggary and with idea about the re-socialization of poor people. Also the active participation of the population (especially urban dwellers) was continually emphasized. Besides prominent citizens, teachers and officials, priests gained an important role in this new system of public poor relief system. The stability of the poor relief system was depended on personal charitableness.
