The World War of 1914–1918 had not only a direct impact on the population and the territory at the battlefield or in the immediate area, but also long term consequences on the demographic picture and the post-war social structure of the affected population. The discussion focuses on factors that influenced their lives during the war, highlights the unique situation of the Slovenian nation and the role of Slovenian soldiers, as well as draws attention to non-combat processes on the Soča battlefield and the effects of the war on the local population.

The research on the cholera pandemic was essential to the project, especially in terms of the organisation of civilian health care structures, which took charge of the prevention and control of communicable diseases in cooperation with their military counterparts. During World War I, the connection between the civilian and military sectors in the Slovenian provinces was of pivotal importance, given that they composed a distinctly transit territory, which imposed a considerable strain on communicable disease control and prevention.
