The lecture unveiled an important aspect of the spiritual dimensions of World War I and the influence of the Slovenian Catholic Church on the Slovenian population and soldiers during such critical times as war. The Catholic Church possessed a great moral authority among the military as well as civilian population. Therefore, careful attention was also paid to its active engagement in raising war-battered morale. During the times when death was so omnipresent, the Church’s role as a comforter was of utmost importance

Given the international attendance at the conference, it was essential to describe the unique situation of Slovenian soldiers during the war who were dispersed to many battlefields and the corresponding methodology of determining losses. The lecture also described the state of research on losses in the Slovenian territory and drew parallels to Southern Tyrol.
