The issue who is responsible to care for elderly in urban-rural-farm social settings and what factors determine their feeling of loneliness was investigated. In comparison with other two groups farm population preserves more family centred intergenerational relations. This is indicated through living arrangements, expected and actual provision of support to the elderly and allocation of that care among household members. Regarding old aged loneliness family is not the only source against this feeling but also available social ties of the neighbourhood which holds true for all social settings.

COBISS.SI-ID: 30646573In the lecture, two main issues were exposed: firstly, how agricultural and rural policy of the EU deals with and affects the status of women in rural areas in the new member states and secondly, whether farm women benefit from the joining Slovenia to the EU or not. On the basis of some preliminary investigation, the authoress argues that more systematic research on farm women/men and evaluation of development programmes’ implementation is necessary on national and the EU level.

COBISS.SI-ID: 6539897The paper presented the application of Slovenian Quality of life questionnaire (QOL) and its association with socio-demographic (age, status, employment, education, number of household members) and clinical factors (type and duration of mood disorders, duration of remission). Diminished QOL was associated in both groups with higher age, with unemployment and with fewer members of household, whereas in the clinical group also with longer remission and reduced extent of depressive episodes.

COBISS.SI-ID: 31857965The lecture discussed the monograph Home and Work on Farms: Research on Generations and Gender Relations. In the first part, barriers and incentives "at home" that promote or hinder the "work" on the farm were presented, population change (aging and depopulation of rural areas), and the importance of two measures of the Rural Development Programme (the Early Retirement of Farmers and the Setting up of Young Farmers) to farms’ reproduction and developmental prospects. In the second part, the main results of the survey that pertain to the farm population’s response on indicated measures were presented and discussed with participants of the lecture.

COBISS.SI-ID: 6932857Paper discusses some results of anthropological field-research on farm families in Prekmurje (NE Slovenia), the region with favourable conditions for farming. The research focused on the intertwined generations and gender relationships among members of six multigenerational farm families to obtain some new knowledge of these relationships in view of reproduction and developmental orientations of farming in Slovenia. The selected collocutors (30) were from the farm households (3), the beneficiaries of aid for young farmers, and others (3), the non-beneficiaries of such aid. The semi-structured interviews revolved around the topics on farm history, gender and generation division of labour, and developmental farm orientation. The fieldwork results show that the beneficiaries of aid for Setting Up of Young Farmers and Early Retirement are promising in two aspects only: they continue with farming and they substantially enlarge the production on the farm compared to the older generation of farmers. The fieldwork material also shows that the introduction of tractors in the late 1960s primarily contributed to a more clear-cut division of tasks between genders irrespective of the size and production capacity of the farm. Irrespective of the time period observed, the farm size and the introduction of tractors, the care for the elderly and children is the working domain of women.
