Prof. Janez Prašnikar is the president of the programme council of the Portorož Business Conference, which combines academics and business areas and deals with important economic and social questions that affect sustainable economic growth, specially the regions of Central and Southeastern Europe. The research group in accordance to its work programme puts a lot of attention to the research topic and connectivity with Slovenian firms. The material is issued in form of the book. Round table discussions with distinguished domestic and foreign practitioners, academics and politicians are held.

The paper investigates whether the transition from a self-managed economy to a market economy had a positive effect on firms’ behavior and can therefore lead to future growth. Authors analyze post-privatization firm behavior and restructuring in Macedonia, Montenegro, and Slovenia. The analysis is focused on early and late phase of transition, which enables us to see how transition process affects the firm behavior in a given country and allow us to make comparisons between countries.
