The two-way trade flows are classified into four competition categories: successful price competition, unsuccessful price competition, successful quality competition, and unsuccessful quality competition. Using a panel dataset of determinants of trade competition between the five Central European Countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia) and the European Union are analysed: the effects of trade balance, export-import unit values, natural and human factor endowments, R&D, foreign direct investments, the size of the economy, and level of income per capita.
