The two-way trade flows are classified into four competition categoriesČ successful price competition when trade surplus is at lower export than import price, unsuccessful price competition when trade deficit is at higher export than import price, successful quality competition when trade surplus isat higher export than import price, and unsuccessful quality competition when trade deficit is at lower export than import price. Using a panel dataset of determinants of agro-food trade competition between the five Central European Countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia) and the European Union, we found the effect of trade balance on trade competition to be more significant than the effect of export-import unit values. Natural, and to a lesser extent human factor endowments increase price and quality competition and reduce unsuccessful price and quality competition. R&D expenditures improve quality competition and reduce price competition. Foreign direct investment reduces unsuccessful price competition and increases unsuccessful quality competition. The size of the economy improves price competition and reduces quality competition. Consumer demands associated with higher level of income per capita increase unsuccessful price and quality competition.
B.03 Paper at an international scientific conference
COBISS.SI-ID: 3169495Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to investigate the internationalisation of enterprises by specific forms of foreign direct investments (FDI) and international technical cooperation in the defence sector. Design/methodology/approach - The effects of defence FDI and international technical cooperation activities on the Slovenian economy are investigated using the input-output modelling approach. Findings - The author finds important direct and indirect effects on the Slovenian economy from the FDI and international technical cooperation inflows into enterprises. These positive effects are directly and indirectly linked to enterprises in different statistically classified industrial activities by predominance of the civil sector, which is important for the development of defence and civilian high-technological base products in different regional parts of Slovenia. Originality/value - The presented findings can be used to arrange industrial and regional development strategy and policy measures aimed at accelerating the internationalisation of enterprises and different industrial activities.

COBISS.SI-ID: 3985623This research contributes to the issue of the size-efficiency relationship of family farms during the transition to a market-economy for Slovenia. In order to obtain wide insights, various efficiency measures, calculated with Data Envelopment Analysis, and various farm size indicators are used, based on Farm Accountancy Network Data averaged at production branch levels. The results reveal consistency regarding the farm size-efficiency relationships in the way that the correlation coefficients for each size indicator have always the same sign whatever the efficiency measure. They further suggest that family labour is more crucial than any other production factor in the country’s farming economy.
D.01 Chairing over/coordinating (international and national) projects
COBISS.SI-ID: 4273367An extensive body of literature examines the effects of labour market institutions on economic performance. On the other hand, several studies investigate the impact of labour market institutions on different types of entrepreneurship. The channels through which labour market regulation affects macroeconomic performance have received less attention. The dissertation examines the role of Schumpeterian entrepreneurship as one of the channels that transmits the effects of labour market institutions on economic performance. After presenting the aspects and macroeconomic indicators fo entrepreneurship and the importance of labour market institutions for the economy, the transmission mechanism is demonstrated by the theoretical model. The implications of the model are then empirically tested on international cross-section time-series data.
