In the paper are summarized the key findings of qualitative part of the research done on municipal councilors. Women need for entrance in the politics special support, their greatest obstacle for entering politics is hidden in self-perception of their skills and burden of private life. Women in spite of their housework which of course is gender determinated report about success in reconciliation of both spheres which shows how deeply internalized are patterns of work distribution which are not perceived as problematic.

COBISS.SI-ID: 47476578The paper will present preliminary results of the research on the population of male and female politicians in Slovene national politics and the obstacles and support they have encountered on their way to political positions. In Slovenia women's presence in politics is, after two decades of political party pluralism and despite their active engagement in political parties and civil society organizations, proportional electoral system on the one side and despite their high achievements in the educational system, high employment rate and low gender pay gap, still low (under 15 percent). The main research questions is why this is still so.
