The paper analyses the role of National Assembly in Slovenia in the last two decades in ensuring gender equal opportunities in decision making processes in three levels: activities of National Assembly as the highest representative body in the country; as legislative body and as a place of democratic dialog. The Author analysis institutional changes in the field of gender equality after implementation of important legislative solutions (i.e. quotas) and new laws. She concludes that men and women are differently positioned and that the National Assembly remains a place of men's domination.

COBISS.SI-ID: 44275810The paper asks why in Slovenia presence of women in politics (parliament, government) remains constantly low despite the fact that Slovenia is a country in which education level of women is constantly increasing; their share in the workforce has not significantly fallen in the times of transition, their level of unemployment is not significantly different from the one of men’s and gender pay gap is under the average in the EU. This is a country which accepted gender quotas for the election at all levels. Yet despite all this presence of women in politics is still among the lowest in the EU.
