Age-related diseases like osteoporosis are associated with oxidative damage of cells. In PhD thesis, we demonstrated the impact of genetic variations of 11 genes encoding antioxidant enzymes on the reduced BMD and development of osteoporosis in 732 subjects. As oxiydative stress may be a result of exposure to Cd2+ ions, the whole genome osteoblast transcriptome analysis after exposure to Cd was done and the new cytotoxic mechanisms of Cd2+ ions were found. Results are presented in 2 published papers and 5 papers prepared for publication.
