Clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine (CCLM) is a scientific journal that publishes articles on all aspects of laboratory medicine. The topics presented are mostly the results of the identification of new diagnostic markers or evaluation of the already known markers. As CCLM is published by International (IFCC) and European (EFCC) Federation of Clinical Chemistry, the journal is important for the dissemination and translation of the findings to the professionals specially in the European area (including Slovenia).
C.04 Editorial board of an international magazine
COBISS.SI-ID: 1826580Professional societies for traumatology, osteology and physiatrics have written the recommendations for management of acute hip fracture in the elderly in Slovenia, which include acute surgical treatment, medical rehabilitation and secondary prevention with treatment of osteoporosis. The recommendations were adopted by the Board for Surgery at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia in June and September 2011.
F.22 Improvement to existing health/diagnostic methods/procedures
COBISS.SI-ID: 1536105On this national meeting, our results were presented in invited lectures. The audience at the meeting consisted of leading medical doctors from clinical pratice, who will in the future benefit from new diagnostic approaches for the evaluation of genetic background of osteoporosis. All three lectures were important from the view of dissemination of our results into clinical practice and offer a possibility to translate our scientific results into clinical practice to ensure a more efficient diagnostics of the genetic factors of osteoporosis.
F.09 Development of a new technological process or technology
COBISS.SI-ID: 2669425In the project, we took care also for the development of young researchers and future scientists. In the field of the project, 4 PhD thesis were defended by Zoran Toršt, Simona Jurković Mlakar, Jana Dragojevič (all of them were young researches) and Janja Zupan. Additionally, 15 Diploma and 2 Masters thesis were defended. Young researcher Zoran Trošt, who defended his PhD thesis in 2009, performed a key part of the 1. WP of the project. By microarray analysis of gene expression profiles in human bone tissue, he applied a modern experimental approach and publisehed the results in an highly ranked international journal Bone. During his postgraduate study, he developed the ability to identify and solve various scientific problems and became a good expert, who will contribute to the development and progress, especially in the field of health sciences.
D.09 Tutoring for postgraduate students
COBISS.SI-ID: 2693233In the developed countries, the percentage of population, over 65 years of age, is increasing. Consequently, the burden of diseases and locomotive injuries is also increasing. Therefore, the World Health Organization (WHO) established a 10-year project Bone and Joint Decade (BJD), now continuing till the year 2020. As a national coordinator for Slovenia, prof. dr. Radko Komadina takes care for the coordination of activities in the field of spinal diseases, injuries and disorders, osteoporotic fractures, osteoarthritis and general trauma. In the frame of the project, a national expert group was established and the experts of traumatology, orthopaedics, endocrinology, physiatry, reumatology, gynecology, general practice, public health work together under the wings of WHO for Slovenia. Due to our accomplishments, the WHO awarded prof. dr. Radko Komadina with the title WHO Ambassador in the field of the diseases, injuries and disorders of the locomotive system.
