Magnetic nanoparticles are examined as delivery systems for different molecules. The aim of our study was to evaluate physicochemical properties, cytotoxicity, cellular uptake and trafficking pathways of the custom-synthesized magnetic nanoparticles. We managed to prepare in isotonic solution stable magnetic nanoparticles with a diameter of 10 nm, which were not cytotoxic in a broad range of concentrations. They were readily internalized into different cells, however exposure to magnetic field increased their cellular uptake, predominantly into malignant cells.

The review article is a comprehensive review of preclinical and clinical studies on IL-12 electrogene therapy of cancer. The preclinical studies have demonstrated that IL-12 gene elctrotransfer is an effective approach as local or systemic treatment. Translation of preclinical studies into clinical trials in human and veterinary oncology has started with encouraging results that would hopefully lead to further investigation of this therapy, also in combination with other cancer treatment modalities.
