We developed unique procedure for synthesis of biocompatible, surfacemodified magnetic nanoparticles for nucleic acid delivery by an external magnetic field.
F.33 Slovenian patent
COBISS.SI-ID: 34792453The patent refers to magnetofection of plasmid DNA (pDNA) coding a reporter gene in B16F1 melanoma cells grown in vitro with superparamagnetic nanoparticles in the presence of external magnetic field. It includes procedures for the preparation and surface treatment of superparamagnetic nanoparticles, the process of binding of an aqueous solution of PEI and pDNA on previously sterilized superparamagnetic nanoparticles and transfection of the complexes of superparamagnetic nanoparticles with PEI and pDNA in B16F1 melanoma cells in vitro by an external magnetic fields for delivery of genetic material and therapeutic substances in cells grown in vitro for different biomedical and biotechnological applications.
F.33 Slovenian patent
COBISS.SI-ID: 34792709Dr. Sara Prijič was awarded Krka’s prize 2012 for postgraduate students for her PhD thesis The use of superparamagnetnic nanoparticles for magnetofection of reporter and therapeutic genes into cells, muscles and experimental tumors in mice. The main topic of her thesis was preparation of superparamagnetic nanoparticles of iron oxide, coated and functionalized with endosomolytic polymers, polyacrylic acis and polyetilenimin and determination of magnetofection efficacy and antitumour effect of nanoparticles with either reporter or therapeutic genes. Research achievements of the PhD thesis were included in the Proceedings of Krka Prizes.
