A method for 4G node frequency selection describes a mechanism for automatically selecting the frequency of a newly installed base station, thereby optimizing the throughput per area unit of the newly installed base station in its predefined vicinity area. The method is based on an iterative calculation approach, which combines real-world network and base station measurements information with the nominal specifications of the newly installed base station (antenna diagram, output power) and the location and direction thereof.

COBISS.SI-ID: 9627732A method for cognitive neighbor selection in 4G networks describes a mechanism for automatic self-learning selection of neighboring base stations for the purpose of providing seamless handoffs in a dense deployment of pico and macro base stations. When a 4G network is modified by adding new base stations, the optimum handoff thresholds and advertised base station neighbors are automatically recalculated in a manner that reduces the number of unnecessary handoffs in a dense network with large number of pico and macro base stations.

D., from the Laboratory for Telecommunications, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana explains that Slovenia has a well-developed infrastructure for broadband access networks, but still needs a lot of investment to enable access to all Slovenian households.

COBISS.SI-ID: 8297556The doctoral thesis was focused on studies of broadband access networks, technologies and services with the objective to optimize their planning. The motivation is based on good understanding of challenges and issues that the operators are facing when upgrades of existent access networks are planned to provide broadband capabilities using a combination of technologies. A mathematical model of a broadband access network is presented along with descriptions of key steps in heuristic problem solving using cost function that describes the optimization problem. BANeT – a Broadband Access Network planning Tool is also presented that allows for heterogeneous access network planning and ws developed based on results and findings of the doctoral work.

COBISS.SI-ID: 8423252Broadband infrastructure is an important growth driver of the economy. Research has shown that 10% growth in broadband Internet access means 1 % increase in gross domestic product of a country. Fixed and mobile broadband networks are vital for the continuing development of companies and countries. In this presentation we analyze the broader topic of broadband networks and methods of their quality measurement. LTFE QoE measurement system is presented, which is designed for the needs of large-scale measurement of the quality of the user experience. The solution is suitable for measuring QoE of fixed and mobile Internet, covering a wide range of parameters and providing insight into the availability, responsiveness and speed of the fixed or mobile Internet access.
