A member of the project team was granted the prize for the best PhD at the European competition of PhD students in the field of nuclear engineering. The PhD work was performed in the frame of this project. The competition, which took place on May 4, 2011 in Nice in France, was organized by the European Nuclear Education Network (ENEN), consisting of 60 members.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2378852The research project SERENA (Steam Explosion REsolution for Nuclear Applications) addresses the remaining issues on fuel-coolant interaction mechanisms and their effect on ex-vessel steam explosion energetics. In the project leading scientists in this field from Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, USA, and Slovenia (JSI) are participating. The main goal of the project SERENA is to gain from the safety standpoint enough reliable estimations of the pressure loads during a hypothetical ex-vessel steam explosion in a flooded reactor cavity.
