A member of the project team was granted the prize for the best PhD at the European competition of PhD students in the field of nuclear engineering. The PhD work was performed in the frame of this project. The competition, which took place on May 4, 2011 in Nice in France, was organized by the European Nuclear Education Network (ENEN), consisting of 60 members.
E.02 International awards
COBISS.SI-ID: 2378852The research project SERENA (Steam Explosion REsolution for Nuclear Applications) addresses the remaining issues on fuel-coolant interaction mechanisms and their effect on ex-vessel steam explosion energetics. In the project leading scientists in this field from Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, USA, and Slovenia (JSI) are participating. The main goal of the SERENA project is to gain from the safety standpoint enough reliable estimations of the pressure loads during a hypothetical ex-vessel steam explosion in a flooded reactor cavity. The project comprises experimental and analytical activities.
D.03 Membership in foreign/international boards/committees
COBISS.SI-ID: 26265383In the comprehensive SERENA analytical working group outcome document the activities of the group and their findings are presented. The document treats all key phenomena during the fuel-coolant interaction, which are presented in the following chapters: jet break-up, melt mass and void in mixture, melt solidification, explosion phase, FCI modeling in integral codes. In the conclusions the important findings are summarized.
D.06 Final report on a foreign/international project
COBISS.SI-ID: 26584615The network of excellence SARNET was founded in the 6. framework program of the EU and is active also in the 7.FP EU. The purpose of the SARNET network is to integrate European research on severe accidents in nuclear power plants. SARNET constitutes most of the research capacities and expertise in severe accidents from 49 organisations coming from 19 European countries, Canada, Korea and USA. The SARNET joint program comprises: integrating activities, joint research activities, spreading of excellence activities, and management activities. Web page: http://www.sar-net.eu/
