High quality graphite is prevailing electrode material in machining with die sinking EDM. In tool making with this technology are made demanding molds and inserts from heat treated tool steels. Quality and reliability of these products depends on manufacturing of graphite electrodes. Primary procedure for manufacturing is high speed milling, which enables high flexibility and automation.
F.10 Improvements to an existing technological process or technology
COBISS.SI-ID: 11595547When machining graphite electrodes we can achieve significantly shorter machining time and more slender forms, which enable better responsiveness and improved competiveness of tool making companies. However, problems are caused by abrasive graphite nature, as accelerates tool wear and thus affect the efficiency of production. The effects of cutting parameters on the tool wear are presented.
