Blue phases with a regular array of disclinations are natural 3D templates for trapping colloidal particles. We discuss possible stable and metastable colloidal structures within blue phases I and II. These approaches may lead to self-assembly of 3D photonic crystals. Our modeling was presented within the invited talk "Blue phases as templates for 3D colloidal photonic crystals" at SPIE Optics and Photonics Conference in San Diego.

With the invited talk at "Workshop on Liquid Crystals for Photonics" in Honkong we promoted our blue phase colloid study. We stressed the relevance of blue phases for possible selforganization of colloidal crystals for photonic applications.
