We studied the photocatalytic degradation of simvastatin, lovastatin and pravastatin, irradiated in the presence of TiO2 catalyst. Mass spectrometry and toxicity assessment were devoted to elucidation of the photodegradated products and evaluation of their toxicity activity. Results have shown that photocatalytic degradation involves various intermediate products. Formation of irradiation products appear through the hydroxyl radical attack on the double bond of the ring. Results showed the decrease of the compounds concentration and formation of non toxic products.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1179899In the lecture, we present the results of the stability of selected pesticides and statins. We have shown that the degradation of organophosphates produces more toxic products. In the case of statins the photochemical degradation of stations takes place through attack of hydroxy radicals on the double bond in the ring, leading to iisomerization products.
