The paper deals with an analysis of three images in the poetry of France Balantič. It first attempts to offer an interpretation of the various ways in which these images are used by the poet and then with the aid of contemporary theories of the metaphor attempts to place them in a broader context. The findings are primarily linked to the fact that the use of metaphors or symbols in Balantič has multiple meanings, shifting between the physical and spiritual spheres.
