Research into the technique of manufacture of the laddered chape of the sword scabbard with openwork fittment from the River Ljubljanica included characterisation of the alloys by proton-induced X-ray emission spectrometry, observation of fragments of bridges from the laddered chape using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), semi-quantitative chemical analysis of minute areas under an electron microscope (SEM/EDS) and metallographic research. Results indicate that the laddered chape was made of forged steel and that the very thin layers (lamellae) of bronze in front bridges acted as solders, thus giving an idea of how the laddered chape was constructed.

During archaeological excavations of Tonovcov grad 156 Roman coins were found. Their detailed analysis created a basis for dating of the phases of the settlement established during excavations. The coins from the settlement reflect the monetary circulation of the late 4th century and indicate a money supply that is typical for the region. The study of the coins suggests that the first settlement on the site was in the seventies of the third century. It was possible to establish that regular coin supply of the site began in the period of Valentinianus I (364-375); it ended in the third or the fourth decade of the fifth century.

Related to the hoard excavated at Gradišče above Bašelj in 1998, we discussed early medieval hoards from Slovenia. They are dated from the late 8th to the 10th century and are integrated well into the large pool of nearly a hundred of such finds from Eastern Europe. Regarding their composition they belong to four major groups of items from the hoards, that is the ones that are related to warfare, agriculture, crafts and riding. Our research shows that regarding the density of this hoards in Slovenia corresponds to the density of hoards from the same period in Eastern Europe. Of all the hoards from Slovenia the one from Gradišče above Bašelj is most uniform as it contains only items of horse and horseman equipment.
