Our research of a group of scabbards and associated swords from the transition of the Late La Tene to the Roman period, which was thought to be of Celtic (Norican and Treveran) origine, has shown that parts of all four items from Slovenia, for which the composition of the metal has been determined, are of pure brass. This indicates that they were not produced before c. 60 BC and leads as to assume that they were made in a Celto-Roman milieu; their distribution seems to suggest North-Eastern ancient Italy as the possible area of their production.

We have collected the evidence of all Celtic tetradrachms of the “Kugelreiter” type (the earliest tetradrachms attributed to the Celtic tribe of the Norici) with known provenance. On the basis of die studies, we established the relative sequence of their minting. Two distribution groups of tetradrachms of this type emerged (a centred one in southeastern Austrian Carinthia (Kärnten), the second in the area of northeastern Italy), indicating at least two production centres and also indicating chronological differences.

Apulian craters are ceramic vessels of specific shape, with painted geometric motifs. They were produced in Apulia between the 8th and 6th cent. BC. Our research has shown that eight craters were discovered at Stična, the central settlement in the Dolenjska region in the Hallstatt period. In the 7th cent. BC Apulian craters were present in Dolenjska as grave-goods mainly in rich man's graves, while in the region of Bela krajina they were more common in female's graves, partly as local imitations. The distribution of apulian craters between Apulia, Istria and Dolenjska was also discussed.

We have completed the survey on graves of soldiers, women of high status and children buried at the cemetery Lajh in Kranj. It indicates ethnic diversity of the population of Carnium (present-day Kranj) in Late Antiquity. In addition to the Romanic populations, Ostrogoths and Langobards we could also observe a strong presence of Allamanni and Franks, probably related to change in political situation in the region; between 540 and 552 namelly Franks gained control over large parts of nothern Italy and eastern Alps.

As a constituent part of the measuring line using protons in the air, a system for detection of backscattered protons was implemented. The technique allows investigation of layered objects, and was tested on the analysis of tinned and gilded samples. The formation of intermetallic compounds was found on the tinned surfaces, and the method of fire gilding was confirmed on the gilded historic objects.
