The extensive monograph (471 pp.) comprises contributions by 34 authors. It was designed to complement the exhibition The Ljubljanica: a River and its past, and, also as a monograph in its own right. It summarises the results of many archaeologists' and other researchers' lasting research. The interdisciplinary nature of the book is clearly evident. Members of our programme team are authors of the major part of the contributions dedicated to the period from prehistory to the Early Middle Age and they also did most of the editorial work on the monograph.

Using the PIXE-PIGE method we analyzed glass of the Carolingian period (8th-10th c.) from Gradišče above Bašelj. The period coincides with great changes in glass technology: the flux of natron, used in the Roman period, is replaced by ash of halophytic plants. The new technology spread to Europe from the East. Natron glass strongly predominates in the analyzed samples from Bašelj, suggesting that the glass made according to the Roman tradition was widely used in the region of eastern Alps till the end of the 9th century.

After more than 120 years since the hoard of Celtic tetradrachms has been discovered in Đurđevac (NW Croatia) we reconstructed its composition and presented it in a publication. The comparison of dies applied to strike the coins enabled us to make a reconstruction of minting of coins of this type, as well as to establish their relative-chronological sequence. We argued that all coins of this group were minted in a short span of time at the end of the second century BC, in the region of the find-spot of the hoard.

Pre-Roman inscriptions are extremely rare in the territory of Slovenia, so their prompt study and publication are of primary importance. Members of the program group have, in collaboration with D. Božič, prepared the publication of archaeological evidence of two inscriptions from the River Soča region, acquired recently by the National Museum of Slovenia. The third recently discovered pre-Roman inscription from the same region was presented by N. Osmuk. Linguistic research of the inscriptions was entrusted to H. Eichner and R. Nedoma. Both studies were published in the same monograph.
