Papers in the monograph include the most recent revelations on the city of Ljubljana (Emona) and her wider geographic area. The papers are based on the latest archeological researches that resulted from the intense renovation of the old city center in the last ten years. Therefore the work brings up new cognitions on the origins and development of the area and new sights on the urban development of the city in late antiquity and in the middle ages. In addition, the papers deal with the protection of the cultural heritage and the role of the architecture in this area. The contributions therefore bring the latest discoveries that interfere with areas of archeology, history and history of art, heritage, etc.

COBISS.SI-ID: 263139840The book First Modern Census in Istria was edited by a member of the program group, Aleksej Kalc. The essay-collection contains the contributions on the first modern Habsburg census in 1857. The census represents a milestone in statistical counts, showing an overview of resources, information and research relating to the Istrian area and its neighbouring lands. This population census in 1857 is also very important in the field of centrally managed population statistics. Census means a transition from population demographics, which were limited and intended for specifically military purposes (and which, in addition to fiscal requirements, represent the most extensive lists of the population), to the statistics of general and scientific nature, as are known today. It meant an end to enumeration methodology before the administrative reshaping and the elimination of feudal relations in the countryside, and had undergone several development phases from their first attempts in the mid 18th century.
