A series of four talked-about public lectures at Cankarjev dom (the Cankar Culture and Congress Center): Od deželana do državljana [From a Countryman to a Citizen]; Med Balkanom in Srednjo Evropo [Between the Balkans and Central Europe] (54277986); Med mestom in vasjo [Between the City and the Village] (542782429); "Zgodovinski" ali "nezgodovinski" narod. Glavni družbeni procesi v samostojni Sloveniji [A ''Historical'' or ''Non-historical'' Nation. Main Social Processes in Independent Slovenia] (54278754). In the series, the lecturer pointed out some of the most provocative issues from Slovene history: the issue of regional and national identity, the issue of the geographic and cultural affiliation of Slovenes (to the Balkans, to Central Europe), the issue of modernisation, the cultural struggle and democracy, and the issue of a critical analysis of the main social processes following the establishment of the Slovene state. The lectures were filmed and, thus far, each was viewed by over 800 people via websites.

COBISS.SI-ID: 274669056During a march of the Visigoths under King Alaric from the Balkans into Italy in 408, the latter made contact with Ataulf while stopping on Slovene territory in the autumn of 408; at that time Ataulf was the leader of a Gothic-Hunnish party inhabiting the territory of the First Pannonia (today's West Hungary). Following Alaric's death, Ataulf became King of the Goths and led the Goths from Italy to South Gaul and Spain. He was the first barbarian king to marry a Roman princess. The lecture sheds light on the issue of the so-called Pannonian federates (ethnically mixed, Goths, Huns and Alans), which were created out of opportunity or for common goals, and disappeared after being united with the central group of Goths. After integration, Ataulf had no difficulty in becoming the king of the entire united people. He endeavoured to bring Goths and Romans closer together, yet failed. His ideas make him a predecessor of Theodoric the Great.
