From 2009 the Department of Geography, UL is cooperating with universities from UK, Germany, Ireland, Czech Republic, Sweden, Netherlands and Lithuania. The main project objective is designation of interpretative model enabling researchers and regional key actors a better understanding and reaction to processes which are brought to rural areas by the globalization. The international team of researchers is cooperating with the stakeholders and researchers on a national and regional level with the goal to upgrade the knowledge and to form recommendations for regional development strategies.
D.01 Chairing over/coordinating (international and national) projects
COBISS.SI-ID: 42117218The 90th anniversary of the Department of Geography was celebrated with international scientific meeting. Fifteen referees presented their views on development of geography in Slovenian and European space. Opinions and views on the future of regional, social and physical geography were presented to a very wide scientific audience. At the meeting 230 participants were present, among them also fifteen foreign geographers, which have collaborated with the Department of Geography in the past.
B.01 Organiser of a scientific meeting
COBISS.SI-ID: 40706146In the year 2009 members of the programme group published two university textbooks, which will contribute to the improved quality of study at the Department of Geography. They will be useful also for students of other faculties. Applicative physical geography of Slovenia and Basics of physical geography of Europe are textbooks from the field of physical geography where the absence of such textbooks was the most apparent. The textbook Applicative physical geography of Slovenia presents the research results of both authors and thus represents an important scientific accomplishment.
D.10 Educational activities
COBISS.SI-ID: 244410624In the year 2009 two members of the programme group (dr. Špes and dr. Černe) were mentors of 2 PhD students who successfully finished their dissertations. The goal of the first dissertation from the field of enivronmental protection was development of the methodology of research on tourism and recreation impacts in the mountainous areas and development of model of sustainable development. The second dissertation was from the field of regional planning. In it the theoretical and methodological aspects of the location of the production activities in Slovenia were researched for the first time.
D.09 Tutoring for postgraduate students
COBISS.SI-ID: 246712576In the last two years five books (monographic publications) were published in the newly established series GeograFF. In the series new original scientific works are published, which present results of the research work of the members of the Department of Geography. The series greatly contributed to the improved possibilities for the presentation of research results to the wider professional audience.
