The book brings a general analysis of connectives from syntactic, discourse and pragmatic point of view and classifies them according to their semantics and contextual use into 4 groups, namely argumentative, counter-argumentative, consecutive and reformulation connectives. Follows the analysis of authentic French oral discourse (TV-debates) and the descriptions of most frequently used connectives as well as their Slovene equivalents. Their argumentative role in discourse is pointed out with stress on their combining with modal markers as marks of speaker's warrant for his words.

The purpose of the article is to improve on the theory of derivational meaning, which came into existence after the inclusion of the proposition as the criterion for determining the number and types of derivational meanings of the noun. Concerning verbal prefixes, two issues arise: the structure of the predicate part of the proposition, and, in effect, the three-way relationship, i.e., between verbal prefix, free verbal morpheme, and the preposition or, rather, noun with preposition.
