In translation of academic discourse intended for publication, rhetorical conventions present specific challenges to the translator who is not a member of the academic discourse community. This paper addresses the issue of translation of rhetorical conventions in academic discourse from the perspective of translator training. The study uses translation task analysis, questionnaires and interviews to examine trainee translators' translation performance, their awareness and perception of academic rhetorical conventions, as well as their assumptions and experiences relating to the translation of academic discourse. The translation task analysis reveals issues related to the translation of rhetorical conventions. Questionnaire and interview data are used to explore potential reasons for these issues. The findings identify several pedagogical challenges that need to be addressed in translator training, including trainee translators' familiarity with the social and discursive practices of the academic community, and their awareness of rhetorical elements used in academic texts in the two languages.

In recent years, building reference speech corpora was an important part of the activities which provided the necessary linguistic infrastructure in many European countries, for languages with many speakers (e.g., French, German, Spanish, Italian) as well as for those with smaller numbers of speakers (e.g.,Swedish, Dutch, Czech, Slovak). This paper describes the process of the creation of a reference speech corpus and its distribution to potential users, as it was done in the case of the Slovene corpus GOS. The corpus structure and ?eldwork experiences with recording, labelling system, and two levels of transcription (pronunciationbased and standardized) are described, as well as the main characteristics of the corpus interface (web concordancer) and the availability of the original corpus files.

The results of research and development in the field of automatic term recognition in a mono- and bilingual context are presented. After a review of state-of-the-art the paper describes the main algorithms for the identification of terminologically relevant single and multiword units in texts and presents the author's own implementation of these methods for the EnglishSlovene language pair. The main part of the paper describes an innovative method of term alignment between languages.

The purpose of the study is twofold: firstly, it analyses the most frequent problems in the translation of legal texts encountered by the university-level students of translation doing the course »The translation of legal texts« and, secondly, it describes the solutions applied. A fundamental difficulty in the translation of legal texts concerns the highly technical subject matter itself. There are important differences between legal systems, each of which has specific norms, as is reflected especially at the lexical level, in the terminology used. Different text genres (for example, legislation, contracts, indictments, legal textbooks, etc.) require different translation approaches and strategies. For students of translation, a particular problem may also be the high level of abstractness of legislative texts, which are among the most complex legal texts. The paper also discusses difficulties which students have with homonyms, synonyms and collocations in the translation of legal texts.

This article discusses how linguistic and translation norms, as evident in dictionaries, enforce the ideology of heteronormativity in Slovenia. The aim of this paper is to show how translation norms concerning homoeroticism were shaped in the translation of classical literature in Slovenia in the twentieth century. Translation norms are shaped in a certain period of time and in a certain environment among translators and others involved in translation according to social and cultural circumstances, expectations, and adaptations of topics to these expectations, in which the translation contrasts the initial norms with the norms of the target culture. At the same time, the linguistic norms of the standard language are created as a result of speakersʼ continuous adaptation to a social and cultural environment, as a result of adapting to the current social ideal. It is assumed that translations contributed to creating a model of heteronormativity, which continues to characterize the Slovenian community today because of the limited number of new translations of classical works of literature.
