The Slovene Regional Days 2011 were dedicated to development of protected areas in Slovenia. We studied development opportunities of these areas and potential land use conflicts. Due to their comprehensive nature they are excelent example for defining sustainable development approaches which could be used also in other areas. Along with the conference also a thematic monograph was published.

COBISS.SI-ID: 257942016The two-day symposium on “Natural Disasters in Slovenia” entitled “Irresponsible responsibility” was held in Ig on March 25 2011 in the Training Centre for Protection and Disaster Relief of Slovenia and in Idrija on March 26. It was organized by the Anton Melik Geographical Institute SRC SAZU, Idrija Municipality and the Administration of the Republic Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief with the cooperation of the Office of Seismology and Geological Agency of the Republic of Slovenia, the Idrija mercury mine,the Geological Survey of Slovenia and the Slovenian Academy of Sicences and Arts. The participants emphasized the importance of cooperation between different disciplines in examining the natural hazards. The second day of the conference in Idrija was dedicated to the 500th Idrija earthquake anniversary.

In 20 pilot areas several partial surveys were made, whose purpose was to look beyond belief that Alpine tourist resorts are seen only as traditional winter sports area, so that public institutions and private stakeholders would indicate the opportunities for all year round tourist development.
