Due to the significance of choice, quality and plurality in university programs as well as balanced regional development, Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor, the central institution for humanities in Styria, with the support of France Stele Institute of Art History at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts founded the Department of Art History (head: Marjeta Ciglenečki). In the newly established department the following programme team members are habilitated as professors and programme holders: A. Lavrič, F. Lazarini, B. Murovec, M. Oter Gorenčič, B. Resman, H. Seražin and P. Vidmar. By establishing new faculty department, Slovenian art history and humanities of the north-east Slovenia gained an important centre for the further development of the discipline, whereas the department also enables direct application of scientific results in the education process. Members of the programme team cooperate (or have in the last five years cooperated) in educational processes at other Slovenian universities, at the departments of art history, history and cultural history, in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs (University of Ljubljana, University of Primorska).

In this lecture, field and archival studies were presented of Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola’s manual Regola delli cinque ordini d'Architettura, first published in Rome 1562, its role and usage among intellectuals and building engineers of the 17th-century sacral architecture in Slovenia. Findings show that the oldest copy of the manual, belonging to the edition of 1620 or 1630 is hosted by the Seminary Library in Ljubljana. Vignola’s moduli, i.e. proportions of architectural orders, were for the first time consistently used in a project, carried out by the members of Accademia operosorum (who were connected with the above-mentioned library): the building of the new Ljubljana cathedral on the threshold of the 18th century.
