Every collectivity perceives its semiotic space as the centre that organizes its life-world. Even peripheral cultures and their historical narratives are imbued with cognitive centrism ("peripherocentrism"). Comparative literature, which was formed at cross purposes with national literary history's ethnocentrism, nevertheless incorporated its cosmopolitanism into ethnocentric agendas: by detecting international relations of their national literatures, comparatists tended to increase the symbolic capital of their native literatures on the market of “world literature.”

The extensive manuscript (around 1643) introduced to 17th century Slovene literature a new literary genre: meditative prose. The first example of the genre originates from the Christian spiritual tradition, although its perspective – dignitas homini – is typical of the Renaissance. The second text contains mystical topics and visions presented through picturesque imagery and a colourful literary style. Both literary meditations include an abundance of new topics and strong emotional elements that transcend the form of the theological discussion used in 16th century Slovene literature.
