The present monograph is based on a qualitative analysis of in-depth interviews with 11 representatives of small and medium-sized high-tech companies and other (secondary) databases, in particular according to the bibliographical database of Sicris. In theoretical terms, the monograph builds on the concept of the so-called Triple Helix, which is based on the interaction of industry (the business sphere), academic institutions and countries. It adds a new fourth dimension – the public.

The article deals with an analysis of the concept of creativity in relation to the gender perspective, and focuses on the relationship between creativity and innovation by drawing attention to the women who work in Slovenia as independent innovators. The first part of the text, introduces the theory of the anthropologist Liepa, which establishes a parallel between creativity and inventorship, that illuminates the concept of "improvisational creativity" presented by Hallam and Ingold. In the second part of the text, an analysis of the interviews made with the female innovators is introduced and point out why the definition of creativity, which is connected to the relationship between innovation/technology, is unsuitable for conceptualising the position of women. The article addresses the concept of "improvisation" as an epistemological model through which we can reinterpret gender roles and relations in a positive and creative way.

This paper describes the modern concept of promoting and using social capital in a decentralized production process oriented towards innovative, custom made products. The model actively integrates the end-user (customer) into the supply chain. The functioning of the advanced concept is clearly illustrated by the use of ICT and the establishment of the so-called virtual factory, where an example from the textile industry (in Slovenia) has been used in the simulation model – an industry which is characterized in the EU area by a low level of competitiveness and a sharp decline in economic performance.

This paper explores the role and significance of independent inventors within the national innovation system. By using a case study based on interviews with 22 independent inventors, it examines the types of social capital facilitating independent inventors' access to relevant knowledge and information. The findings show that, in line with their marginalization in the national innovation system, independent inventors have very limited access to the services and assistance of supportive organizations of the national innovation system. They primarily rely on the social capital residing in civil society organizations as well as the social capital of their family and friends. Professional and interdisciplinary linkages can thus be regarded as their weak point hindering their access to relevant knowledge and information.
